OS Earth Day & Egg Hunt
Saturday April 17th is our annual Egg Hunt (rained out twice---3rd time's a charm!) and this year we're hosting our first annual Earth Day Festival also coinciding with the Egg Hunt. The Egg Hunt starts promptly at 2pm and vendors for the Earth Day event will be arriving between 2 and 3. We'll have several green companies on site to share information about their products and services, including Simply Organic Turf Care, Cane Creek CSA/Farm, Greenhouse Pest Management, Etowah River Alliance, and more. We'll have an Earth Day kids' activity, bouncies, refreshments and giveaways.
August Pool Hours Update
As previously scheduled and per our contract with Dynamo Pool Management and the fact that school is back in session, beginning this week the lifeguards are scheduled to be at the pool M-Th from 4-8pm Friday, 4-10 and full time on Saturdays and Sundays through the end of August. Labor Day we'll have a guard there as well.
Because it is still warm out now and due to the cold weather we have experienced in September the past couple of years, we are weighing the option of substituting some of those September weekend guard hours for more popular week days in these weeks of August. The costs associated and popular times will determine if this will be possible.
Presently, SAYOR(Swim At Your Own Risk) will be in effect during the times that guards are not on duty through September. The pool is not open after 10:00PM and remember that due to safety concerns and the associated liability, nobody is to be on either the lifeguard stand or the slide during SAYOR.

Mulching Day at the New Property
The Landscape Committee has secured the delivery of free mulch through Caldwell Tree Care. The date to spread it has been set for Saturday, April 19th. We are in need of volunteers to assist in the spreading it in the backyard for the new "picnic area". Many volunteers from OS are needed to make this day successful. Our community work saves us additional expense in labor. BOD and committee members will also join in. We will have a grill going, and will sell hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas. Please mark your calendars now. Meet at 8am.
Please email
You need JavaScript to see my email address to volunteer your time, or your tools. Tools to bring: Pitch Forks, hard rakes, leaf rakes, tarps, and gloves.
We recently purchased eight picnic tables which will be sanded and stained, and will be placed in designated areas on the mulch to provide shaded seating, and picnicking overlooking the pool.
Spring Has Sprung!
It’s that time of year to get your yards in tip top shape. In the fall, we contracted with a new landscaping company, Valley Crest. An official Landscape Committee was also formed to address our common areas, and act as liaison with Valley Crest. The “LC” as we affectionately call them, monitors their services and reports back to the BOD with updates and suggestions.
The Landscape Committee has been working very hard on plans for our common areas. After much research, Valley Crest will begin aerating and seeding the commons areas next week, with a rhizomatic blend of fescue seed called Defiance, as recommended by our LC. It is being timed with the impending rainfall. Beginning April 1st, we will be allowed to water with our irrigation system 3 days a week for 10 weeks. The LC feels that with proper aeration, proper straw coverage, and a fully working irrigation system, this will be sufficient to establish our new grass.
Also, the "LC" is steadily working on the Master Landscape Plan and should be wonderful to see the finished product.
An Egg-cellent Egg Hunt!
If you didn't make it to the Egg Hunt, a great time was had by all. The emails and Yahoo posts have been flowing in with some many great stories of the good times people had. We had beautiful weather, and the kids really enjoyed themselves. Many reports of sunburn, despite snow flurries the day before! It was so nice to see everyone come out. We had 73
pre-register and 31 walk-ups. Compared to last year 74 pre-register, and 29 walk-ups.
Every enjoyed using the new picnic tables, that were purchased by the New Property Committee for our new "Picnic Area".
A HUGE Thank you to all those who helped the day of, and helped in advance. We seriously could not have done it without you all!!!
PHOTOS NEEDED! Please share your Egg Hunt photos with us. I'm building galleries here. We are in need of ANY event photos, past or present. Also photos from the trails and neighborhood that highlight and showcase the beauty of Orange Shoals.
